Abstract

Purpose: The purpose of this descriptive correlational study was to examine correlations of teamwork with emotional intelligence, teamwork skills among registered nurses.

Methods: A convenience sample of 168 registered nurses participated in this study. Data collected from 23, October to 4, November, 2013. Data were analyzed using t-test, ANOVA, Scheffe¡¯s test, Pearson¡¯s correlation coefficient, and multiple regression with SPSS 18.0 program.

Results: There were statistically significant correlations between emotional intelligence and teamwork skills (r=.588, p<.001), between emotional intelligence and teamwork(r=.439, p<.001), and between teamwork skills and teamwork(r=.607, p<.001). In a regression model, the only teamwork skills were positively associated with teamwork(¥â=.533, p<.001), and its explanation power was 37.9% (F=50.375, p<.001).

Conclusion: These results suggest that targeted interventions to enhance nurses¡¯ teamwork skills may be need to promote nurses¡¯ teamwork and performance.
